SIXTEEN-year-old Lucia Francis-Wint has successfully completed the first steps towards becoming a fully fledged Royal Navy officer.
The former Ashlawn School pupil embarked on her naval career in January and is now set to stay at HMS Raleigh to complete her specialist training within the Defence Maritime Logistics School.
Lucia this month completed an initial nine week starter course which included developing basic team work and seamanship skills and learning to safely handle and fire an SA 80 rifle.
She is working towards becoming a logistics officer - a role that would see her responsible for ensuring her ship has everything it needs to be operationally effective from food supplies to weapons and specialist staff.
Lucia told us: "I joined the Royal Navy to do my bit for my country, to see the world, to make my family proud and for the amazing experience.
"I absolutely loved basic training - it gets hard at times, but you have to take the good with the bad.
"My fitness level has improved and I've made some new friends who now feel like members of my family."
