  • Dust deposit was not Cemex

    Pete Squires

    13 May 2008

DUST which fell over large areas of the county over the weekend could be a 'natural phenomenon' and nothing to do with Rugby's cement works, according to the Environment Agency.

The agency moved quickly to collect samples and to investigate on Sunday after receiving about 80 complaints from residents.

Areas of the town and as far as Coventry were covered in dust two weeks after we reported the mystery of an ash-type substance being sprayed over parts of Bilton.

The Environment Agency's David Hudson said: "Firstly, the dust doesn't stick to surfaces in the way that cement clinker dust does and, secondly, the area affected is much too large (all across Warwickshire and beyond)."

An investigation into dust which fell over Bilton on April 29 is still being carried out although Cemex said the wind was blowing in the wrong direction for its plant to be at fault.
