A VET has warned pet owners not to buy cheap flea drugs after burglars raided her practice and stole 30 packets of tablets.
The packets of Frontline Combo flea tablets were taken from The Animal House on St Peter's Road at around midnight last night (Sunday) after burglars disabled the security system and used bolt cutters to enter.
Director Theresa Duffin said no money was taken, but added she was concerned about what would happen if somebody bought and used the prescription drugs incorrectly on their pet.
"If these were given to an animal in the wrong dosage, they could either do nothing if there's not enough, or do serious damage if the dose is too high," she said.
"The people who broke in have gone to an awful lot of effort for not very much. We had a break-in only a few months ago so the insurance costs will go through the roof."
She added the packets of prescription flea drugs looked similar to over-the-counter remedies and warned people to be aware of this.
Anyone who is offered cheap flea tablets should not buy them and should alert the police on 01788 541111.
