Wearing stripes or patterns can be daunting but you can either throw yourself into the trend or play it safe with the help of a few simple rules are followed.  One rule to wearing patterns in an understated way is to pair with solids.  Patters are easier to wear with solid colours.  In doing that the pattern doesn’t overwhelm the ensemble.  The same goes for stripes, breaking them up with solids helps the stripes to blend with the overall look.  Neutral or muted solids work best.

However, seeing that wearing a lot of pattern is one of the biggest trends this season, why not have fun with it?  For the brave, fashion forward, mix and match floral with stripe or leopard with polka dots.  Gwen Stefani is the queen of mixing and matching patterns, and pulling the look off effortlessly.  However celebrities have their bad days too.  Jessie J’s bright floral suit combination that she was photographed in recently was just too overwhelming on her frame.
