ONE of comedy's most iconic double acts will be getting themselves into another fine mess in a stage show telling the story of their illustrious career.
Wearing their trademark bowler hats, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were the original comedy double act. Appearing together in more than 100 films they made the world laugh with their accident-prone buffoonery.
In Northampton Derngate's latest production the legendary duo's golden age will be relived in a glittering homage which bursts onto the stage on Tuesday (May 20).
In a funny and touching comedy written by Tom McGrath Stan and Oliver will recreate some of their greatest slapstick routines while also revealing the real men behind the on-screen personas.
The sparse cast will see them accompanied only by pianist Greg Palmer, providing incidental music and an array of silly 'silent movie' sound effects.
The acclaimed show is a joint production with the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich and stars Ben Fox - who recently appeared in Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd - as Stan Laurel and stage star Christian Patterson as Oliver Hardy.
It runs until Saturday, May 31 with tickets priced from £26 to £10 with concessions and discounts available. Call the box office on 01604 624811 or visit www.royalandderngate.co.uk.
