  • Kanye West to play Global Gathering

    Kevin Unitt

    17 April 2008

HIP-HOP superstar Kanye West will headline this year's Global Gathering at Long Marston Airfield near Stratford.

The 2008 event, taking place on Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26, will also feature live performances by Moby and Mark Ronson, top DJ talent including Tiesto, Erick Morillo and Roger Sanchez, and an air show from the red arrows.

All 55,000 tickets to the weekender are expected to be sold quickly.

Kanye West, the multi platinum album selling artist, will transform the main stage with his ‘Glow In The Dark Show’.

In what will be his only UK festival appearance of the year, the set will be taken over by robots designed by acclaimed artist Christian Colon and creatures by the legendary Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, with lighting will come from Martin Phillips and John McGuire, who were responsible for Daft Punk’s Pyramid.

An event spokesperson said: "To call Kanye pioneering doesn’t give him enough justice.

"His catalogue of sleek productions has broken down genre barriers between hip-hop, R&B, pop and electronic, selling him more records than his contemporaries.

"Global Gathering is not only the UK’s biggest dance party and original camping weekender; it is the world’s biggest dance festival, with a line up that consistently features the greatest DJs on the planet.

"This year’s line up is more eclectic than ever thanks to an increased number of live acts."

The Airfield site will house 16 state-of-the-art arenas and stages, and a campsite the size of 50 football pitches, with additional hot showers and an outdoor cinema this year.
