Machete wielding robbers hit bookies

ROBBERS wearing boiler suits and balaclavas armed with a machete held up a town bookies this morning (Tuesday).

The two masked men struck at Coral bookmakers on Hillmorton Road shortly before 10.15am. One guarded the door while the other armed robber demanded money from the cashier.

The cashier placed a small amount of money into a blue holdall before the thieves ran out of the shop and across the road into Kingsley Avenue.

Nobody was injured in the robbery.

Witnesses report seeing the men running down Studland Avenue where it is thought they got into a dark red car before driving off towards Lower Hillmorton Road.
