RUGBY Roots kick off 2013 by welcoming back ColvinQuarmby.

ColvinQuarmby - featuring Gerry Colvin (acoustic guitar) Nick Quarmby (bass) Martin Fitzgibbon (drums) Allen Maslen (guitar) and Marion Fleetwood (fiddle/cello/) - play Lawrence Sheriff School on Saturday March 9.

The band have established a reputation as one of the best live acts on the roots circuit, and have played at some of the biggest festivals in the country. In 2009 they were voted second best act at the Cropredy festival - second only to the mighty Richard Thompson and ahead of Seth Lakeman.

Colvin’s songs have an unmistakable English lyrical content, combining witty observations of the ordinary and occasionally mundane aspects of everyday life, with sweet melodies.

Froots Magazine described them as: “A heady and potent mixture of driving acoustic rhythm, laced with liberal helpings of folk, country, skiffle, an inherent and intelligent use of the pop sensibility, topped off with some simply irresistible harmonies.

ColvinQuarmby will be supported by the young Norfolk based singer-songwriter Jess Morgan who is steadily building a name for herself in roots and folk music, with songs peppered with influence from both her Welsh and English heritage

Jess Morgan is a superb young singer-songwriter with a repertoire of fine songs and a delightfully quirky style, she’s the perfect opening act for CQ and we think this will be a great show”.
