POLICE are trying to trying to trace a good Samaritan who called for an ambulance after finding a man lying in the road with head injuries.

The passer by called the ambulance at around 8.30am after finding the injured man lying in the street on Sandown Road on Saturday (January 19).

He was taken to University Hospital in Coventry where he received treatment for facial injuries including a fractured cheek bone and damage to one of his eyes.

The injured man, who is 37-years old, initially had little recollection of what had happened to him and how he came to be injured.

But some 12 hours later, while still in hospital, he was able to tell police that he recalled being punched in the face.

Det Cons Rob Ewington is trying the establish what happened to the man and is hopinh to trace the passer-by who called the ambulance.

He said: "We do not know the man came to be injured or how long the man had been lying in the street.

"His injuries are consistent with being assaulted. We would like to speak to the man who found him as the victim was already in hospital by the time we were able to speak to him."
