SFF to hold football trials

THE Strachan Football Foundation (SFF) are to host three days of trials at Kilsby Lane, the home of Rugby Town Juniors, for school leavers and any 16 to 18-year-olds who are looking for a career in football and football coaching.

The trials, which will take place from February 18 to 20, will include training and team based classroom activities throughout the week, whilst interviews with SFF staff will also be part of the week.

Participants will have the opportunity to be coached by SFF coaches Gordon Strachan, George Mackie, Dan Elliott and Chay Thompson with a number of guest coach appearances from coaches with Premier League experience also going to be made.

Dan Elliott, SFF Education and Marketing Director, spoke of the progress the foundation is making: “To think of the progress made in under two years. We train at a multi-million pound purpose built football facility, we have three teams playing week in week out from u18s to u21s and have played in the British College Elite League Cup Final at Bristol City.

"We produced our first professional player in Luke Leahy who signed a two-year contract at Falkirk and we have also qualified over 70 Level One students in Sports Coaching and trained 16 apprentices completing the Level Two Sports Coaching apprenticeship framework.

"Working with schools in the area has been another major success our first annual primary schools tournament in May was a great experience for all involved.”

SFF offers 16 to 18-year-olds the opportunity to continue their education and develop as a footballer whilst gaining qualifications in sports coaching and literacy and numeracy.

The foundation offers young people an alternative to college and sixth form and has links with universities and coaching companies in the USA to provide jobs and opportunities of scholarships.
