A PEOPLE carrier driver hit a moped and kocked its rider over but failed to stop at the scene.

Police are appealing for the driver or any witnesses to come forward after the crash yesterday (Wednesday) at around 8.30am.

A woman was riding the moped along Ashlawn Road when the dark blue people carrier, travelling in the opposite direction, overtook a bicycle.

While performing the manoeuvre, the car clipped the moped's handlebars, knocking it and its rider to the ground.

But the driver failed to stop at the scene of the crash and drove off.

The woman suffered cuts, bruises and whiplash in the accident, and her moped was damaged.
