WELSH head into the Christmas break in good heart having secured a third successive league victory against a hard working Copsewood outfit on Saturday.
The visitors were on top for much of the match but it was not until the final quarter that they began turning pressure into points.
Good work from Welsh’s forwards saw them win plenty of possession in the opening half with Roach and Corrigan performing well in the line-out.
Daz Wade kicked well out of hand to set up plenty of attacking opportunities with Jason Reynolds also punching holes in the home defence with some strong midfield runs.
However, Welsh were struggling to turn their pressure into points and had to be content with a 3-0 half time lead, secured through Wade’s penalty.
The home side defended well during the first half and Welsh were left to rue the fact they lost possession close to the line on several occasions.
The second half began in similar fashion but eventually the pressure began to tell with Welsh gradually starting to convert pressure into points.
From a quickly run penalty in front of the posts, the ball was fed to Nigel Bird who burst through two tackles to score a richly deserved first try for the club in the corner.
Soon afterwards Welsh were attacking in the same corner and this time it was Jim Davies who went over for another unconverted try.
Welsh were now in complete control and with Andy Higham’s strong runs on the flank causing problems, they always looked a threat.
Their third try came following another strong run from centre Reynolds when the ball went through several hands before captain Adam Bond crashed over in the corner, Wade converted.
The victory leaves Welsh fourth in the table and with competition for places developing well, they can look forward to the rest of the season with increasing confidence.
