Swimming
Swimmers sign off in fine style

RUGBY Swimming Club showed tremendous spirit to secure a second place finish in their final competitive action of 2012 which took place in Bromsgrove.

A number of absentees meant Rugby had to rely on a number of swimmers filling in, swimming strokes they would not normally and swimming up an age group or two, all of which they did brilliantly.

Individual wins were recorded by Ellen Armeson and Matthew Seaton in the 10/11-year-old backstroke, both with a clear margin. Thomas Parker also claimed success in both the backstroke and breaststroke continuing his fine form throughout the series. Adam Wanless was another to have clear water between himself and the others in the 50m butterfly.

Rhys James won the 13 and under 100m freestyle before Rugby triumphed in four successive relays. The 10/11 boys and girls medley relay teams were joined in their success by the two 13 and under freestyle teams.

Rugby began to run out of steam in the later relays but still picked up some second and third placed finishes.
