MOBO-award nominated jazz singer Zara McFarlane will be previewing tracks from her upcoming album in Rugby at Rugby Jazz's first concert.

The 28-year-old singer will appear at Lawrence Sheriff School on Saturday November 24, just a few weeks after appearing at the MOBOs in Liverpool having been nominated in the best jazz category.

She said: "I’m really looking forward to performing in Rugby, where my band and I will feature plenty of songs from my debut CD, Until Tomorrow.

"We find ourselves ahead of schedule with our new material, which means some tracks from the new album will be heard live for the very first time. I hope the people in Rugby will like them."

Already available for preview is Zara's rendition of Junior Murvin's reggae classic Police and Thieves, previously covered by The Clash. The video for her version has already been viewed on Youtube 18,000 times.

Rugby Jazz promoter, Chris French, said the new version shows Zara’s music will appeal to a range of audiences, and not just jazz fans.

He added: "I believe we can safely stake a claim we are set to see the first ever MOBO nominee appear in Rugby.

"Zara deserves this accolade for many reasons, especially for such a great debut album, full of excellent, new, and I’m pleased to say, original songs."

Doors open at 7pm. Tickets cost £10 and are available from www.rugbyroots.com or from Sounds on Church Street.

For more information call Chris French on 07855 463 934.
