A Level results bring smiles and tears

A LEVEL students across the borough were looking to the future after receiving their results.

Students at Lawrence Sheriff School were celebrating another set of excellent results.

All who sat an exam passed, and 73 per cent of entries gained A* to B grades which maintained last year’s high standards.

Several students achieved particularly highly including Henry De Boer who was awarded five A* grades, Peter Ravenhall who gained four A*s and Calum Oakley, who received three A*s. Both Peter and Calum will be progressing on to courses at Cambridge University.

Headteacher Dr Peter Kent said: "I would like to congratulate our students on maintaining and even improving upon last year’s very strong performance. The year group have worked extremely hard and richly deserve these outstanding results."

At Rugby High School students produced a record breaking performance for the third year in succession.

Almost half the pupils were awarded A* to A grades with six students achieving a place at Oxford or Cambridge.

Twins Rachael and Ellie Stott, were celebrating after achieving five A*s and one A between them. Ellie will be going to Sheffield University to study Architecture while Rachael will be studying Drama and English Literature at the University of East Anglia.

Also celebrating was Victoria Adelmant who was awarded three A*s and two As to add to the A* she gained in French last year. Victoria has secured a place at Oxford where she will read Law and German Law.

Headteacher Charlotte Marten said: “We are absolutely delighted that students have the results that they need to take up their places at university or realise their offers of employment.”

At Princethorpe College over half of students achieved A* to B grades with 25 per cent of these at A* or A grade.

Top performers included Megan O’Gorman with four A*s and an A, outgoing Head Girl Ellie Eaton with three A*s, and Jack Collins also with three A*s.

Headmaster Ed Hester said he was delighted with the results and particularly pleased that pupils had achieved more grades at A* and A than ever before.

He added: “These results are the best ever in the College’s history. This is a year group which has worked exceptionally hard and I am delighted pupils have been rewarded for their outstanding efforts.”

Warwickshire County Council young people spokeswoman Coun Heather Timms said: “Thousands of Warwickshire teenagers have worked very hard at their courses over the past one or two years and we are extremely proud to see them succeed.

"The good set of results is a testament not just to each individual’s hard work, but also to the first class teaching, support and encouragement provided by school and college staff, parents and carers."
