A FEW technical hiccups did not stop a giant Lady Godiva parading through Rugby.

As part of the Cultural Olympiad at the Games in London, the Godiva themed multi-cycling machine made its way past past Rugby School and along High Street yesterday (Monday).

The six metre aluminium creation, driven by around 100 cyclists, was greeted by large crowds in the town who were out in force despite the wet weather.

And although behind schedule due to some technical issues, Lady Godiva, her horse and their riders were not stopped as they make their way from Coventry to London this week.

Built by staff from Somers Road-based Shaw Sheet Metal, the Godiva Awakes project forms the region's offering to the Cultural Olympiad.

Having already travelled from Coventry through Rugby, it heads to Northampton today (Tuesday) and then to Milton Keynes, Luton, Hatfield and Waltham Abbey before arriving at its final destination in London.

Musicians, dancers, artists and performers were also out in the town to create a carnival atmosphere on the day.

Observer photographer Jon Mullis was on the scene snapping shots of the day's action.
