A YOUNG man who police believe had just stolen a car crashed it into a tree and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

The 20-year-old suffered a serious leg injury when he hit a tree on Little Lawford Lane yesterday (Sunday) at around 9.15am.

The car he crashed, a Honda Accord, had been reported stolen from an address in Selside, Brownsover, less than an hour earlier.

It is believed an opportunist thief stole the keys to the car from the kitchen table while the owner of the house was upstairs.

After the crash, a man was seen getting out of the vehicle and trying to cross nearby fields.

He was taken to University Hospital in Coventry and underwent surgery for leg injuries. He is currently detained there for further treatment.
