BARBY CC had double reason to celebrate at the Rugby and District Cricket League finals on Sunday as the Midweek XI and the u11s triumphed.
The Midweek XI took on Rowland United at Rugby School and having won the toss, skipper Lyndon Slassor had no hesitation in batting first.
The innings never really exploded but on a large playing surface, ones and twos were the order of the day and all Barby batsmen performed well.
Paul Henderson (10) and Will Sinclair (30) started the innings off and steadily set about setting a defendable target despite some tight bowling from Joe Golding (1-8).
Following the loss of Henderson, Rob Field (21) and Sinclair put on 50 for the second wicket with good running between the wickets.
Barby continued to accumulate thanks to Lyndon Slassor (17), Neil Chippington (13), Dan Dury (10no) and Bikram Singh (9no) as Barby close on 133-5.
Rowland lost two early wickets in reply due to the tight bowling of Sinclair (2-11) and were never up with the required run rate.
Despite being able to hit the occasional boundary, Rowland found the tight bowling of Sinclair, Beagley, Singh, Henderson and Hussain too much to cope with and finished on 106-6. Thompson (27) and Foxon (22) made the main contributions.
This saw Barby lift the Midweek Senior Knockout Cup for the third time in six years. The team in full was: Paul Henderson, Adam Shay, Phil Beagley, Ajaz Hussain, Lyndon Slassor, Dan Dury, Will Sinclair, Neil Chippington, Bikram Singh, Rob Field and Dave Wesson.
BARBY u11s took on Rowland u11s in their age group final and also came out on top.
Batting first, Barby made an impressive 278-3 and Rowland struggled to get close in reply, closing on 207-6.
It was a comprehensive victory for a Barby team who have remained unbeaten all season, with the final winning team being made up of: man of the match Joe Hardbattle, Jack Hancock, Harry Norton, Seth Westley, Jonty Craven, Ben Grundy, Oliver Park and Ben Harris.
THE Saturday 1sts had their first taste of action in a month on a soggy outfield at Walsall YMF where they picked up a Division One losing draw.
Having chosen to bowl first, tight opening spells by Stev Stipanovic (1-31) and Will Sinclair (2-46) saw Barby apply early pressure which resulted in Walsall YMF struggling for runs.
Wickets were in short supply from Barby's point of view though but the change of bowling saw wickets begin to fall.
Bikram Singh picked up 3-44 and Phil Beagley 3-32 but some lusty blows from Walsall batsmen Awan (46), Ali (46) and Rasool (40) set Barby a target of 191 to win.
Barby never really got to grips with the slow outfield and struggled to find any fluency. Only Dave Watson (24) and Joel Gleghorn (29) had any answer to some accurate bowling.
The visitors looked to be heading to a safe draw, but still had time to make things interesting with three comical run outs before finishing on 106-6.
THE 2nds game at home was washed out with the Barby outfield continuing to be unplayable following the recent rain.
