Seven rescued after shop explosion

FIREFIGHTERS rescued seven people living in flats above a Bilton shop which exploded and caught fire.

Residents living above a shop on Freemantle Road had to be evacuated from their flats by firefighters using ladders after the explosion this morning (Thursday) shortly before 12.45am.

There were no injuries reported and firefighters managed to put out the blaze.

Firefighters expected to be at the scene for some time afterwards.
