RUGBY’S Mark Cossar captured the runners-up spot in the 1000cc British Sidecar Sand Racing Championship in Guernsey at the weekend.
Making his debut on a sand racing circuit, Cossar put in a typically impressive display, just missing out to Rob Wilson in the final.
“I’m sure I would have done better if I’d not been riding my speedway sidecar,” said Cossar, who was partnered by Carl Blyth.
“I really needed my grasstrack bike, which has suspension. It would have suited the conditions much better. It was a great experience though and I’ll know better next time.”
Cossar was not alone in this department as Australia’s World Champion Mick Headland - also on a speedway sidecar - found conditions difficult, failing to make the final.
