THE ladies at Rugby Triathlon Club have demonstrated good form in two early June events.
Claire James refused to let the awful Jubilee weekend put her off as she finished third lady overall at the Coventry Triathlon.
She timed 1-20.49 to finish second in age group (40-44) and was soon followed home by Bev Masterman who timed 1-27.18 to finish third in age group (30-34) and eighth overall.
Chris Parsons also competed and crossed the line in 1-12.32 for fourth in his age group (45-49) and 23rd man overall.
Masterman was in top form again the following weekend when she finished first in her age group at the Corby Triathlon.
She completed the 350m swim, 16km bike ride and 3.2km run in 1-01.38.
Club members Ross Wearing and Mike Donnelly put themselves through ‘Hell’ at the start of June when they took part in the Hellrider Duathlon - a race that is described as ‘an off-road duathlon of devilish proportions’.
Finishing 16th and 19th respectively out of 70 solo entrants, the two had to run and cycle continuously for eight hours.
Ross was very pleased to have completed challenge five in his year of extreme challenges to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
He has already completed several gruelling events including an indoor rowing marathon and an off-road running marathon. His Just Giving page is www.justgiving.com/ross-wearing.
Pete Timmins and Mike McGillion again fought hard against the effects of very cold water in the second round of the Xterra Mass Start Swim Series held at Box End, Bedfordshire.
Timmins’ time of 1-33.03 saw him finish fourth in age group (vet 50) whilst Mike McGillon finished in 1-42.17 for fifth in age group (vet 40).
Finally, three club members took part in the Dambuster Triathlon, a huge event which attracts 1000 competitors.
Chris Wood completed the Olympic distance event in 2-08.40 and was followed by Lawrence Webb in 2-12.06 and Matt Uzzell in 2-22.17.
If you are interested in taking part in triathlon, more information concerning the club’s adult and junior sections can be found at www.rugbytriathlon.org.uk.
