Hi: 9° Lo:3° 7 day

EMERGENCY services were this morning (Monday) called to the second smash on the M6 near Catthorpe in the space of a week.
Two lanes on the southbound side of the notorious stretch of motorway were closed while paramedics tended to two casualties. One had to be cut free by firefighters and had suffered head injuries.
Ambulance crews and police were called to the scene at around 8.35am following reports of a crash between a lorry and two cars.
And just an hour later a lorry and a car crashed on the northbound carriageway of the M6 between junctions one and two. Nobody was seriously injured in this collision.
All lanes are now open on the M6 between junction one and the Catthorpe interchange.
Only last Monday, 45-year-old haulier Scott Bridges from Flitwick in Bedford was killed on the same stretch of road when his articulated lorry crashed with another. The other driver suffered minor injuries.
For years calls have been made for improvement work at Catthorpe, and late last year it was announced plans to redesign the junction and make it safer would get underway sometime within the next three years.
