Barby book final place

BARBY booked their place in the Northants final of the National Village Knockout on Sunday with a 62-run victory over Weekly and Warton.

The fall of two quick wickets saw Barby in trouble early on after they had decided to bat first but captain Tom Gleghorn (48) and Dave Watson (30) steadied the innings.

A late push from Joel Gleghorn (17) and William Sinclair (21no) saw Barby reach 165-7 with Cortese (2-21) and Payne (2-34) doing the main damage for Weekly and Warton.

Bickram Singh (3-21) picked up early wickets as the reply got underway but Weekly and Worton struggled to ever really get going, their cause not being helped by Lyndon Slassor’s superb run out.

Phil Beagley (2-7) and Adam Shay (2-16) then wrapped up the tail to end the innings on 103 and see Barby into the Northants final, which takes place at home on Sunday (1pm) for the second year in a row.

THE success came on the back of a Warwickshire League Division One losing draw at home against Pak Shaheen on Saturday.

Barby chose to bowl first on a damp track and Pak Shaheen made a slow start to their innings.

The pace never really picked up for the remainder of the innings as Dave Knightbridge bowled tightly to return 2-38 off 15 overs.

Paul Jacob’s 43 gave the innings a boost but wickets continued to fall, though a succession of dropped catches did little to help matters.

Accurate bowling by Stev Stipanovic (3-48) and Dave Watson (4-31) helped finish the innings off at 133 after 44 overs.

Barby also made a cautious start to their innings as some tight bowling made them struggle and wickets began to fall.

Faruq, Zaman and Raja all took two wickets each as Barby never looked like being able to reach the target.

Only Neil Chippington (31no) offered serious resistance as they finished on 104-8 and picked up eight points for their afternoon’s work.
