Hi: 8° Lo:2° 7 day

COVENTRY Triathletes are busy organising the city’s very own Triathlon event this summer as Olympic spirit takes full swing.
The event, which will be held on June 3, will take place at the Xcel Leisure Centre in Canley, where the swimming leg will be held, and both the cycle and running stages will use the surrounding roads.
The sprint distance of 400m for the swim, 20km for the cycle and a 5km for the run means the event is more than accessible for anyone wanting to have a go and any road worthy bike can be used for the cycle phase of the event.
“With London 2012 on the horizon it’s the perfect time to play host to a Triathlon in Coventry,” said Dave Grant, a leading member of the Coventry Triathletes who is fronting the project.
“We hope the event will prove a great springboard for those interested in having a go at triathlon and showcase for how accessible the sport is to others who are yet to take the plunge.’”
The Triathlon event is being run entirely by volunteers, many from the Coventry Triathletes Club, but as this is a large event the club would welcome anyone who is able to give their time and support in the day.
For those interested in competing for a cause the event has teamed up with Marie Curie as its official Charity.
Entries for the event, which costs £35, are open through the clubs website covtri.co.uk where further information and updates can be found.
