Rugby Town 1 Marlow 0
Southern League Division One Central
TYRONE Fagan scored the only goal of the game as Rugby overcame bottom of the table Marlow on the final day of the season to replicate last season’s sixth place finish.
Fagan’s first half strike secured Rugby’s 11th home victory of the season as Northwood and Biggleswade both lost to allow Rugby to climb two places on the final day.
The first half was dour on an unusally wet, blustery and unpleasant final game although the only goal of the game came in the first period.
Fagan’s clever turn in the box proved too much for a Marlow defender and an outstretched leg brought the big striker down for a clear penalty.
The 31-year-old picked himself up to take it but saw his spot kick brilliantly pushed against the post with the rebound fortuitously landing at Fagan’s feet again to tap in.
Marlow posed a threat in both halves but their forward line were weak in front of goal.
Rugby were no better in the finishing stakes as Michael Williams, substitute Seb Hamilton and Seb Lake-Gaskin all missed chances to double the advantage.
