WARREN Tebb bagged a hat-trick of tries as Lutterworth maintained their grip on second place in the table with two games of the season remaining.

A fast start by both sides saw some end to end rugby being played but early stolen line-out ball by Lutterworth’s Charlie Turner was a sign of things to come and a scrum infringement provided the chance for Oadby to clear.

The visitors’ number nine soon came under pressure and clean ball to the fly-half from the back of a scrum was dropped allowing flanker Joe Sullivan to kick on, retrieve the ball and score under the posts for a try converted by James Lloyd.

Oadby did pick up points from Lutterworth’s few mistakes but they struggled to settle and were soon on the back foot again, finding themselves defending a line-out just five-yards out.

A maul was formed from Turner’s catch and walked forward just enough for hooker Tebb to roll off and score, taking three defenders with him as he broke his duck for the season.

A familiar theme was emerging as the home pack took scrum ball against the head and Sullivan made ground.

As Oadby set up a defensive ruck just two yards from their try line, a pass back to their fly-half to clear was judged out of play as his foot was on the dead ball line, giving Lutterworth a five-yard scrum. The expected clean ball was gifted to James Cooke who powered over, Lloyd converted.

A lapse in concentration from Lutterworth saw Oadby take a further three points but from the kick-off, Oadby handled the ball like a hot potato and the hosts were soon on the front foot again.

Clean line-out ball from second row Ian Evans allowed Lutterworth to again set Tebb up to score, Lloyd converted.

A late clearance by Tom Hooper from a brief Oadby attack saw the visitors’ winger again bundled into touch by Cooke and Daffern as the hosts went in 26-6 ahead.

Sullivan scored the first try of the second half which Lloyd converted but a further penalty for the visitors reminded Lutterworth they were still in the game.

Fast ball from the home side found second row Chris Gregory in space and he showed a great turn of speed to leave defenders in his wake, going over in the corner.

Oadby responded with a good spell of pressure that brought a converted try but Tebb’s response was to complete his hat-trick before Daffern followed him over the line for Lutterworth’s eighth score of the game.
