A MOTHER and her two children escaped unhurt after an arsonist lit two fires outside their Rugby home.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the attack on the house in Nelson Way around 11.30pm on Wednesday April 26.

A wheelie bin was set alight next to a front door, and another fire started at the same time in an outbuilding at the rear of the house.

Fortunately the fire did not spread into the house and the three occupants safely escaped the property after after being alerted by a passer-by.

Det Con Jim Middleton said: “We are treating this as a deliberate act of arson. This fire could have easily spread into the house with dire consequences. We are appealing for any information about this incident at all, or any witnesses to any suspicious behaviour on Nelson Way at that time.”

Anyone with information should call DC Middleton on 01926 415000 ext 6136 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
