WILLOUGHBY CC got their season into full swing off the field on Saturday with their annual involvement in the national ECB NatWest Cricketforce Weekend.
Club members, players and officials, raging from seven to 70, made their way to The Green to pitch in with a variety of jobs around the ground and club pavilion ahead of the new season.
NatWest CricketForce is an England and Wales Cricket Board volunteering initiative aimed at rejuvenating cricket facilities throughout England and Wales.
It encourages cricket supporters, their friends and families to give back to their local cricket club by volunteering to undertake renovation work in club houses and grounds.
Now in their sixth year of participation, Willoughby were again one of over 1900 clubs across the UK who participated in this year's Cricketforce.
Buoyed by the incentive of a bar-be-cue breakfast, the work party were a busy lot, taking on everything from raking leaves, ground repairs, pitch preparation, cleaning windows and floors, to making scarecrows for the village's Scarecrow Festival to be held later in the month.
Club Press Officer Karl Quinney said: "It was a very successful morning with a lot of jobs in and around the ground completed. It was great to see many different people from right across the club get involved, proving what a great club spirit we have and what happens on the field is only part of what our club is all about."
As part of this year's scheme, Willoughby were also successful in their application for additional support from one of CricketForce's corporate partners, Build Centre, and their Privilege Account Scheme. The funds from the account scheme will go towards further works planned at the club in the coming month.
WILLOUGHBY'S off-field off-field preparations are ahead of the start of the season which get underway at The Green on Saturday, April 14 with the visit of neighbours Braunston Paddox for a friendly (2pm).
Before then, Willoughby's senior and u15s are invited to attend an outdoor net training session at the club on Tuesday from 6.15pm till dusk. Call 07775 883102 for further details.
