DIVERS today (Monday) swept the river in Wolston as the search for missing pensioner George Summerfield continues into its third week.
The specialist underwater search team, brought in from Thames Valley Police, made a thorough search of the River Avon and Wolston Angling Club pond off St Margarets Avenue in the hunt for clues about the 77-year-old's mysterious disappearance on Thursday March 29.
So far searches of Mr Summerfield's Meadow Road home, establishments he was known to frequent in the village and areas of woodland and field around Wolston have turned up nothing.
Fresh sweeps of open areas around Wolston were made today alongside the underwater search as part of renewed efforts to find clues about what might have happened to widower Mr Summerfield.
Over the past fornight, villagers in Wolston have banded together to help police with their efforts to find Mr Summerfield.
And last week police appealed for two mystery men seen talking to Mr Summerfield on the day he disappeared to come forward, with officers no closer to identifying them at the moment.
Sgt Stuart Powell of Warwickshire Police said: "Over the past two weeks we have searched all possible locations around Wolston in our search for George Summerfield.
"It is most unusual for Mr Summerfield to go far from home which is why we are concentrating on the vicinity. He does not drive and it would be out of character for him to use public transport, so it is not likely he would have gone any further than he is able to walk.
"We are grateful for all the support we have had from the community and their help with our searches so far. Clearly he is a much loved member of the community and everyone is as keen as us to find him.
"We are still appealing for anyone who knows anything about Mr Summerfield, his whereabouts or intentions, and has not spoke to us about it to come forward. All information will be treated in the strictest of confidence."
