THREE young members of Rugby Junior Triathlon Club have enrolled on to British Cycling’s Young Volunteers scheme which will enable them to develop tangible leadership and communication skills while helping and coaching members at the club.
Under the scheme, Jess Butterworth and Alex Considine, two ‘outgoing’ Junior Club Captains and Rob Mackenzie, a past Junior Club Captain, will be helping to deliver training sessions each week.
Their volunteering hours at the club will be recorded and will build to achieve various attainment levels - Bronze (12 hours), Silver (24 hours), Gold (36 hours) and Platinum (72 hours). When the various levels of the scheme are reached the young volunteers will be recognised for the work they have done at the Annual British Cycling Awards.
“This is a great scheme for our club,” said John Austin, Rugby Junior Triathlon Club Chairman.
“Not only does it encourage their own individual skill development and recognise that effort, but it also offers up three great role models for the club’s younger members.”
RUGBY Triathlon Club members recently took time out from their weekly swim training session to present donations to the two charities the club supported during 2011 - The Myton Hospices and Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.
Each charity received a cheque from Chairman Ali Postlethwaite for £348.50.
She said: “Our members enthusiastically support the club’s charities each year and it is down to their fund-raising efforts at our various social events that has meant we are able to make this presentation to Myton and WNAA.”
