RUGBY and East Warwickshire Hockey Club’s Ladies had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Solihull Blossomfield 2nds in their final Warwickshire One home game of the season.
Maddy Thomas put Rugby ahead but Solihull soon levelled from a short corner.
Starting the second half with renewed vigour, Rugby regained the lead through Lara Naylor but a late Solihull strike ensured the contest finished level.
TWO goals from player of the match Beth Duffin helped the 2nds to a 3-2 victory against Long Buckby 2nds.
Duffin’s first came after good work from Julia Bower and made it 1-1 before Jane Phillipson made it 2-1 in the second half after being presented with the chance by Lucy Quirke.
Long Buckby got themselves level thanks to a fine individual goal but Rugby had the final say with five minutes left when Duffin grabbed her second of the game from Bower’s cross.
THE Men’s 5ths needed to win against West Bridgford 5ths and hope Boots’ result went their way if they were to gain promotion, and with both things going their way, celebrations began.
Goals came from Cave and Harrison ensured a half time lead for Rugby but the visitors pulled one back early in the second half from a penalty corner.
Rugby continued to attack and the Harrison brothers both scored to make it 4-1.
Another defensive lapse allowed West Bridgford to score a second before captain Assheton rounded things off with the fifth.
RUGBY Badgers drew 3-3 with Northampton Lions in a contest that provided plenty of fast, free-flowing hockey.
Most of the early pressure went Rugby’s way with midfielders Simon Allan and Jonny Bowering impressing.
Lions countered well though and scored twice before the break to give themselves some breathing space at the interval.
Andrew Walker pulled one back after the restart and it was soon level when Richard Massie scored with a reverse sweep seven minutes later.
Lions found a way past Amy Cairns to make it 3-2 but Harry Brignal ensured it finished all square with a goal 30 seconds before the end.
