FIREFIGHTERS spent last night (Tuesday) tackling a huge blaze at a barn near Churchover.

Six crews from Rugby and Bedworth were sent to the scene of the fire at New Ash Tree Farm, off Leicester Road to the north of the town, at around 8pm.

Plumes of smoke and flames could be seen by passers-by driving along junction one of the M6 motorway.

A spokeswoman for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue service said the barn was filled with hay. Nobody was injured in the blaze.

Firefighters had it under control by around 9.15pm and spent the next two hours damping down the area around the barn.
