Swimming
Records are broken in Coventry

By Jamie Arrowsmith 07/02 Updated: 07/02 11:12

RUGBY Swimming Club members went to great lengths to secure record breaking performances at the Coventry and District Long Distance Championships.

Taking on one of the longest competitive distances in pool swimming, both Rhys James, 11, and Tom Parker, 12, won their age group races in the 800m freestyle.

Tom finished in a time of 11.37 whilst Rhys finished in a club record and personal best time of 12.26.7.

Adam Wanless, 9, who was swimming the distance for the first time, also set a new club record when clocking 14.34.8 to take second place.

The girls all produced personal best performances in the 800m, including Eve Benison, 11, in 13.03, Chloe Rimen, 12, in 12.56.4 and Anna Shepherd, 14, in 11.38.7.

Megan Williams, 11, also posted a club record time of 12.29.4 in her race, helped by some friendly rivalry with fellow record breaker Rhys.

In neighbouring lanes they edged each other on before the race and high-fived straight afterwards.

The club is currently on the lookout for new swimmers, in particular aged between seven and 11.
