AEI Rugby 66 Stoke Old Boys 2nds 3
Warwickshire Five
AEI returned to winning ways with an emphatic home victory against a Stoke side who travelled with a bare minimum 15 players.
The hosts dominated from the outset and enjoyed the majority of territory and possession throughout.
In fact AEI had the upper hand in almost all aspects of the game and, on the back of a strong forward performance, characterised by prop Jamie Barlow's man of the match winning hat-trick, were willing to run at a Stoke defence unable to cope with the pace of the home side's backs.
Tries came at regular intervals with John Stretton (3), Gareth Bott (2), Dan Curtis, Jonathan Jenkins and Paul Eaton all benefitting from a much improved display.
The advantage held over the visitors was typified by a cameo appearance from Joe Bott who scored a fine solo try from a kick-off when he caught the ball on his 22, chased his own downfield kick and beat the defence to touch down.
With the game all but over at half time, AEI were able to make six changes without interrupting the flow of points.
To their credit, Stoke competed for the full 90 minutes and did register a drop goal from one of their rare visits to AEI's 22.
