Aylesbury 0 Rugby Town 3
Southern League Division One Central
THREE second half goals saw Rugby pick up a welcome victory at Aylesbury on Saturday to keep them in the hunt for the end of season play-offs.
Despite Aylesbury struggling at the wrong end of the table, manager Dave Stringer knew it would still be a tough contest for his side and their cause was not helped when Luke Leahy was ruled out due to a broken rib.
Rugby, who in avoiding defeat stretched their unbeaten run to three games, nearly made the perfect start but home defender Jeanmal Prosper cleared a leaping header from Tyrone Fagan off the line in the fourth minute after a good cross from Craig Reid.
Aylesbury were not without chances of their own as the impressive Scott Orphanov hit the post before volleying Luke Graham's cross past the post.
Town almost broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time when Richie Allen found Seb Lake-Gaskin but he sent his effort straight into the grateful arms of goalkeeper Rhys Marshall.
It was all Rugby in the second half and they went ahead four minutes after the restart when Reid crossed for Fagan to head home at the far post.
The lead was doubled five minutes later with Ed Booth the man to get his name on the scoresheet.
Man of the match Allen accurately found the defender with a corner when he rose highest to leave Marshall picking the ball out of the net.
Aylesbury were now being outplayed as Rugby produced some neat and confident football and the chances kept coming their way with Lake-Gaskin seeing two good chances go begging whilst substitute Seb Hamilton fired over.
Ringing the changes did little to improve Aylesbury's fortunes and the scoring was completed with a fine strike from Lake-Gaskin when he unleashed a powerful drive from 20-yards.
