Hurle stars as Rugby triumph

Rugby and East Warwick 8 Burton 3

MRHA Midlands Premier

LUKE Hurle helped himself to a hat-trick as Rugby proved too strong for bottom of the table Burton on Saturday.

Russ Watling opened the scoring with a low drag flick before Hurle got in on the act and Ben Kluth added two more.

Andy Sellers also got on the scoresheet when tapping home at the far post but the goal of the game came from Australian Nick Russ after a fine team move.

Burton fought back to 4-3 at half time but Rugby showed great character to score four unanswered goals after the interval.

IT was not such good news for the 3rsd who were beaten 5-1 at West Bridgford as they saw their East Midlands Premier promotion hopes dented.

Rugby started well and were unlucky to fall behind to what proved to be the only goal of the first half.

Man of the match Suraj Tailor got Rugby back on level terms at the start of the second half but four goals in ten minutes saw the hosts ease home.

THE 5ths were beaten 3-2 in a thrilling contest against Olton 5ths.

A confident start from Rugby was not rewarded and they were made to pay when Olton scored twice in five minutes to take command.

Rugby felt they should have had a penalty flick on the stroke of half time when the ball appeared to strike a defender’s foot on the line but it was not given.

A couple of substitutions at the start of the second half paid dividends for Rugby as they drew level thanks to two goals from Andy Langton but Olton had the final say when Brian Hopkins fired home the winner.

GOALS from Gill Harrison and Julie Lines gave the Ladies 3rds a 2-1 victory against Hampton in Arden.

Hampton went ahead from a short corner after just a few minutes but Harrison levelled midway through the second half before Lines netted the winner just before full time.
