LUTTERWORTH Athletic took the derby day honours with a 3-0 home victory against Dunton and Broughton Rangers on Boxing Day.
All of the goals came in the first 30 minutes of the contest with Danny Laywood (2) and Matt Rains securing the win.
The victory leaves Lutterworth one point behind leaders Birstall United in second place and they have a game in hand.
“We did well, local derbies are notoriously unpredictable and form really does go out of the window. But we did all we had to do in a 30 minute spell where we dominated possession and finished clinically,” boss Mick English said.
“Credit goes to coaches Lee and Dan who have done a great job this year in making sure the lads are prepared well.”
Lutterworth entertain Dunton in the return fixture on January 2 before tackling Ellistown in the Senior Cup three days later.
