LUTTERWORTH Athletic took two steps closer to silverware this week when progressing in two separate competitions.

They won 5-1 at Ellistown on Tuesday night in the quarter-finals of the Leicestershire and Rutland FA Senior Cup to follow on from a 6-0 success at Lutterworth Town on Saturday in the last eight of the Beacon Bitter League Cup.

Athletic were dominant in Saturday’s eagerly anticipated tie which was played in front of a good crowd.

Goals from Danny Laywood (2), Billy Hayes (2), Andy Cross and Jake Pantony sealed the win as Athletic advanced.

First half goals from new signing Dom Ivens and Laywood set the foundations on Tuesday night.

A further Laywood strike and Ben Laxton’s second half brace sent Lutterworth, who return to league action with a trip to Cottesmore on Saturday, through.

The Reserves also had cup success with a 1-0 victory against Kingsway Celtic to reach the last four.

The Ladies are looking forward to their cup final on Sunday which takes place at 2pm at Holmes Park, all support is welcome.

THE u17s’ cup run came to an end at the Y4 final stage when beaten by Thurlaston who play a division above them.

Lutterworth had the better chances in the first half with Riley Booth and Jack Hirons going close.

Olly Faulkner made a couple of good saves but was powerless to prevent Thurlaston eventually taking the lead.

Lutterworth gave their all in search of an equaliser but it was not to be as Thurlaston scored a second to complete the victory.
