ATTICA will be showcasing their new album in their home town when they play The House on Saturday (January 28).
The jazz funksters - singer and guitarist James Berryman, bassist Adam Wright, drummer Tom Hill and saxophonist Ben Shanahan - will be taking to the stage at the North Street venue formerly known as Verve at 9pm.
The quartet's fourth album As The Crows Flies was released in October, since when they have played gigs in London and Rugby, but this will be their last home town performance before a busy six months of gigging, with shows lined up as far afield as Paris and Newcastle, followed by various festivals appearances.
The band formed at Northampton College about a decade ago and down the years have shifted between rock, heavy rock and jazz – settling now on a jazz funk sound, described by James as sounding somewhere between Sting and Jamie Cullum. They have previously played alongside the likes of Blondie Paul Weller and Ocean Colour Scene,
James said: "We love playing to our home crowd as we are playing to an audience that, for the most part, knows us and our music. When we play else where in the country, there's always that pre-gig anxious feeling of 'will they like us?
"Playing in Rugby is still a test, despite playing to our own crowd. It's a test because you can't re-hash what you did the last time. if you play in Rugby you have to go on stage ready to give it to them, otherwise they give it to you."
